There are three aspects to the timing of the yard sales (garage sales):
-
What hours or the day
-
What days of the week
-
What dates of the year
Saturday is the best day for having yard sales. You will get two or three times
as many people on Saturday than you would on Sunday.
The time to start your sale will depend on your community but a good time is
usually 8am. If you state the sale starts at 8am, be prepared for early birds
to show up 7am. These are the pros who are either looking for special items and
antiques or they want to buy the best things first and will offer you far less
money than you usually can get later. Most of the time these are "hit and run"
buyers who come early, take a quick look and offer pennies for items in hopes
of getting a great steal, and then leave. They try to go to as many yard sales
before opening time as possible. Offer to take their phone number and call them
later if the item doesn't sell for more.
Avoid holidays and rainy days. The best dates to have a yard sale (garage sale)
varies from state to state. For example, while in Winter it could be diffcult
to have a yard sale in Maryland, it could be quite pleasant in Arizona!
Timing of the sale can also affect the price of the items. You can start
lowering the prices about noon. If an item hasn't sold by noon, you will have
less and less chance of finding a buyer, so if you really want to sell the
items, ask less.
End the sale early. You will get the majority of people in the morning and the
number of buyers will drop off drastically by 1 or 2pm and be down to a trickle
by 3 or 4pm.
